New criteria for A level courses
Monday, 02 October 2006 00:00
New criteria have been published by QCA for A levels taught from September 2008. Most A levels will be reduced to four units but there will be no change to Mathematics, because of the changes introduced in 2004.
There will therefore continue to be four units, four in pure mathematics and two in applications, including statistics. How performance ‘above grade A’ will be recognised has still been left open. Three options will be tested: harder questions at the end of the papers; mixing harder questions into the papers; and having the harder question in a separate paper, as is currently the case with the advanced extension award.
