The DCSF has launched a consultation on the introduction of a ‘school report card’, which aims to improve the way schools’ performance is reported to parents, communities and other stakeholders.
The consultation explores issues of the content, use and design, seeking to establish general principles. The categories of performance that may be included are: attainment, pupil progress, wider outcomes, narrowing gaps, and parents’ and pupils’ views. Either a numerical score or a rating for each category would be given. An overall score is also proposed, calculated from the scores for each of the categories of performance. However, the relative weightings of the different categories will be consulted on at a later stage. The consultation can be found at www.dcsf.gov.uk/consultations and closes on 3 March.
